The following are group member behaviors (group norms) that I think, if followed, would best enhance the effectiveness and satisfaction of your workgroup in this class.
Identify SMART goals
Goals help drive the behaviors of the team. Essentially, the goal(s) is the starting point that provides key information on what needs to be accomplished. Goal setting can thence enhance the effectiveness of the group.
Share responsibilities
Watkins (2021) advised new leaders to establish responsibilities for the team in the early phase of the workgroup. It is crucial that every team member knows what tasks they must get done for the goal to be accomplished. When everyone is clear on their role and responsibilities in the group, it can help enhance the workgroup's effectiveness.
Communication
Clear, concise, and open communication is often a common recommendation given by experts in various fields. Tirakyan (2021) discussed communication as a best practice for leading virtual teams. Conversely, a breakdown in communication can have adverse effects on the group. As such, it is imperative that communication within the group remains open and clear to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction among members.
Management of agreement and conflicts
The Abilene paradox illustrates the importance of managing agreement. However, managing disagreement is also just as important. I like to think of them as two extremes. If one is not managed properly, then it can have repercussions on the group like group think. As such, the proper management of both agreement and conflicts can contribute to its effectiveness and satisfaction.
Do the work
Group members just need to get the work done so that the set goals can be accomplished. When team members do not do their part, then it creates conflict and puts a strain on other team members as they now must pick up the slack. However, when everyone completes their tasks, it enhances the group’s effectiveness and satisfaction.
